A couple of years ago, my mother visited
Malawi with Red Cross to see the charity
work being done in the country. In traditional
African manner, a group of dancers teach the
inhabitants of primitive areas the five important
occasions for washing your hands and the
importance of hygiene in general. This is done
through dance, singing and drum play.
I have created pictograms that also
communicate these five occasions. The
pictograms must be understandable for a
person from an East-African culture and be
easily drawn with chalk or coal on toilets or
hand-washing-stations for instance.
